Historical Renovations
Historical Renovations are another specialty of Musson General Contracting. When renovating an historical building, we must work closely with the Historical Society to ensure the requirements of each building are met. With the help of contracted architects and engineers, we are able to rebuild, renovate, and remodel buildings to meet the clients’ specifications while working within the parameters set out by the Historical Society and local jurisdictions. This partnership has allowed MGC to become one of the areas finest for being able to produce a structure that can meet today’s high building standards while maintaining the beauty of Fresno’s historical buildings.

The old ‘Hobbs-Parson’s’ building once a produce market, was originally established in 1903 and was renovated into a Fire Administration Building housing the Chief and the Executive Staff.

As you can see above, it incorporates the “old” with the “new” meaning the newly renovated building must be created while keeping the area's history intact. So, even though the building is now occupied with the Fire Department's Administration, the building's original architecture had to be preserved.
The front of the building had to be a replica of the original so metal craftsman were hired to reform the original signage and intricate metal leafwork.
Another example of how MGC kept the history alive was to leave the original wooden trusses and much of the original masonry exposed and use these to ‘highlight’ the new building. When one walks in through the main doors, the uniqueness of the building immediately captures your attention. Part of the building is actually an historical museum featuring some interesting pieces of the Fire Department’s history.

The main idea of an Historical Renovation is to keep as much of the original building as possible and renovate it into a functional structure. This not only revitalizes the Historical structure into a useful building, it creates a final product that is not only vital, but beautiful. The Historic building would otherwise be destroyed due to deterioration, however, Musson General Contracting helped it become a new building that will be useful for years to come.
