Fire Administration Building of Fresno County

Historical Renovations are another specialty of MGC. In Fresno County, Musson General contracting has been involved in much of the revitalization of the downtown district of the City of Fresno. Downtown revitalization is important to MGC because maintaining Fresno’s heritage and sense of community is what molded us into who we are today. We want to give back to the area that originally made it possible for the growth of Fresno. We want people to remember the wonderful rich stories and traditions that downtown Fresno has to offer.
One example of how we are supporting the downtown revitalization is the Fresno Fire Department Administration Building. This Tenant Improvement, which is now housed in the old ‘Hobbs-Parsons’ building located across from Chukchansi Park Stadium, was completed in 2008. This building dates back to 1903 and is one of downtown Fresno's finest examples of historical renovations.

When renovating an historical building, like the Hobbs-Parsons, Musson General Contracting must work closely with the Historical Society to ensure the requirements of each building are met. With the help of contracted architects and engineers, we were able to rebuild, renovate, and remodel the Fire Administration building to meet the clients’ specifications. As with all Histroical renovations it is imperitive that we work within the parameters set out by the Historical Society and local juristictions. This partnership has allowed MGC to become one of the areas finest for being able to produce a structure that can meet today’s high building standards while maintaining the beauty of Fresno’s historical buildings.
The old ‘Hobbs-Parson’s’ building once a produce market, was originally established in 1903 and will be used as a Fire Administration Building housing the Chief and the Executive Staff. It incorporates the “old” with the “new”. For example, the original wooden trusses and much of the original masonry were left exposed and used to ‘highlight’ the new building. When one walks in through the main doors, the uniqueness of the building immediately captures your attention. Part of the building is actually an historical museum featuring some interesting pieces of the Fire Department’s history.
The main idea of an Historical Renovation is to keep as much of the original building as possible and renovate it into a functional structure. At Musson General Contracting, we like to utilize the old materials and craftsmanship and incorporate them with modern technology. This not only revitalizes the Historical structure into a useful building, it creates a final product that is not only vital, but beautiful. The Historic building would otherwise be destroyed due to deterioration, however, it becomes a new building that will be useful for years to come.
