Cabinetwork - the Musson Way
Traditionally Musson General Contracting has strictly been a commercial contractor, however, we believe our product is exceptional and want residential and commercial clients to have access to our quality cabinets. Our cabinet makers are able to design, build, and install cabinets for both commercial and residential clients. The main benefit to the commercial and residential industry is our cabinets are not out-sourced, so there can be a great deal of savings as well acquiring a quality product that is reliable and will last for years.

Musson General Contracting's On-site Cabinet Shop
The onsite cabinet shop allows us to work closely with clients so they are part of the process. Our 'Old world Style' cabinets are made of high quality solid wood pieces that are each hand chosen by our cabinet maker and are properly reinforced with joints, glue and screws to ensure durability. They can be hand-finished to create that unique one of a kind a unique interior that our clients are looking for.

A desirable surrounding is of utmost importance to us and clients often report they cannot believe how major the transition was from the original ‘mass produced’ cabinets to their new beautiful ‘custom’ living area.
A Bit of History About Our Master Carpenter
Although our staff is hired because they have a variety of trades, many also have a specialty and our Master Carpenter, Leon Petrenko, is no exception. Petrenko joined the Musson General Contracting team and set up our on-site cabinet shop in 2002.

Petrenko’s love for finish carpentry began when he was a small boy. He was raised in the small country of Latvia, which is considered the ’Heart of the Baltics’ in Europe having much ancient history and tradition. He enjoyed oil painting and drawing on canvas and needed to learn how to build the sub-frame in which the canvas would be stretched as well as the actual frame for the paintings. This is where his artistic side blossomed as the frames had to not only fit perfectly but be beautiful enough to frame his artwork.

As a teenager, he attended correspondence university art courses at Russian’s capital: Moscow. Petrenko designed and painted beautiful murals which could be found in theaters and churches. At eighteen he was drafted into the Soviet Army to serve his country and it wasn’t until he was twenty-one that he actually began working in construction. He had various jobs including bricklayer, plumber, crane operator, etc. Throughout all of this he was requested to do more and more private work for others and soon grew into an expert finish carpenter.
It was in 1990 that Petrenko immigrated to the U. S. to continue his career. With minimal English he began work with a company in San Francisco remodeling upscale homes on Russian Hill. His work was exactly what he loved: crown molding, specialty panels, tile, and fine woodworking. He liked a challenge so the more difficult the cuts and intricate the details the more he wanted. His desire to figure out the best solution to a difficult problem energized him and his perfectionist side drove him to perform beyond others.
He married in 1995 and moved to Fresno three years later to work for another construction company. Unfortunately, Petrenko struggled while working for this company. The view of the company was different than his in that their main goal was not quality but quantity. This ate him up as he knew if he was to continue, he would have to produce substandard work and go against his personal belief system. It was at this time that he met Rod Musson. They worked together for a few months and Rod left to pursue higher interests. When Rod formed his own company he knew he wanted to provide the very best for his clients and sought out employees that would provide outstanding unique work that would meet Rod’s high standards. That is when Petrenko began work for Musson General Contracting.

Petrenko’s standards for himself and others he works with are very high. In fact, his core belief when building something is, “Whatever I do, I do it like I’m doing it for myself. That way it is done. It will never come back because it was done right the first time.” He reports feeling very happy working for MGC because people appreciate what he does.
